NUMBERS

There’s a lot of righteousness coming off the Numbers label. Below is some of the newest and best, so do yourself a huge favor and check it out. Or you could just go the website. Yeah, that’s probably better.

SRC///GOLD COINZ

NEW PIC

This EP brings enough 8-bit weirdness to make Joker (TRON!) green with envy (because he is regularly purple, duh)

Would you like to sample our delicious Gold Coinz?

Gold Coinz//Awesome and kinda annoying all at the same time- like playing strip Monopoly

Fanstasy Mix//Timbaland playing Pac Man while on acid. That’s about the size of it.

KAVSRAVE///QUOTES

This EP is really, really, really good. And I don’t mean that like when your girlfriend exclaims that to you in bed. Because she’s lying to you. I am not.

PClart///Serious track. Big and beautiful- like a brown stallion horse with skates on, ya know? (if you get that, I think you’re cool)

…And a nice dubby number (ha!) from Kavsrave and A1 Bassline, because daddy loves you

DEADBOY///IF U WANT ME

Hugely anticipated UK Funky sounds from 2009 darling Deadboy. This comes on the heals of U Cheated, one of the huge tracks to come out of funky last year, Lil’ Silva, Roska, etc. notwithstanding. We’ll get to them… eventually. The EP has been out for about 2 months now. Again, there was a lot of stuff coming out before this blog, so we’re gonna be alternating between catch-up and brand-ass-new for a while now.

Here’s about a month-old promo mix from Deadboy for Plan B in London:

DWNLD

If U Want Me//Only if you want him, though

LANDO KAL/LOW LIMIT///THE GOLDEN HANDSHAKE

Finally showing a little more US love on here, the boys from San Francisco (slash New York, right?) Lando Kal and Low Limit, better known as Lazer Sword, released this complete banger in March. Towards the electro/beat-mash/hipster-hop/whatever-the-hell side of the spectrum (these guys always make me think of Ninjasonik, for some reason), the shit is nonetheless tight party music. Shot in the Nite, Here:

is one of my favorite tracks from earlier in the year. Now we’ve got this new joint to groove on. And apparently a full-length is on the way. I’m out of breath now.

Here’s mi cancion favorita off the EP. I could give up the whole thing, but I’m too lazy

Boomkat’d!

And finally, a little FACT mag mix from back in March that I find quite enjoyable, indeed

O-Wow

My undying love affair with all things Buraka Som Sistema is re-ignited by Joao’s release of O Dedo. Not to be confused with a certain future five-time divorcee Guidette, J-Wow brings the pan-global heat on this one. Afro-beats layered with rave freak-out synths. Killer. Actually sounds less Kuduro and more Tribal Guarachero-esque. Viva!

The track is just ridiculous. The remixes by Bird Peterson and SBTRKT are narsty. Don’t sleep.

Oh, and the video makes me a very happy boy:

Beyonce enthusiasts inquire within: J-WOW///Diva RMX

…And an old-ish (not sure when I copped this) mix. It is, as all things this man touches, FACKING GOLD

Check out all his latest on his MySpace

Time to Get Funky

•June 2, 2010 • Leave a Comment

This is one of the best UK Funky riddims to be heard in a while, IMO.

Doc Daneeka is a producer from Wales. He will most likely destroy all in 2010, so watch him close.

Here’s a nice little stream of the entire EP:

BOOMKAT!

Also got a FACT Magazine mix from March from the good doctor:

Full-length Explosion

I’m gonna have to do a little back-tracking to start this blog out. So here is some stuff from the last few weeks that will melt your face.

GLITCH MOB///DRINK THE SEA

First up, the new Glitch Mob album. West Coast future-beats from 3 veteran badmen and a whole lot of slappy, big-room bass. Lashings of crazy synth freak-outs and a liberal dash of 8-bit sounds that make you yearn for your solitary, painfully nerdy days playing Zelda in your room (or was that just me?) complete the experience. A little more song-structured/accessible than previous, but eargasmic all the same. But I’m a sucker for stuff that I can put on and not have all the girls cock their heads like they were the RCA dog (greatest commercial actor of all time, that dog)

Just in time for hazy LA summer barbecues… and hippie-plagued 50 degrees and sunny days at Dyke Beach (oh, beloved Dolores Park, I miss thee) for my SF brethren

Full album streaming on their site right hurr

Some tracks to get the juices flowing right n’ya:

Bad Wings///Booming

Drive it Like You Stole it///The lead-single, methinks(?). Umm, glitter-thump comes to mind here. Yeah, that’s a genre now. I coin it

Between Two Points///Nice Female vocals and ring-y melodies on zis one. These are a few of my favorite things

GUIDO///ANIDEA

GUIDO - Anidea image

If you’re like me- and you probably wanna be like me- this album will make you mess yourself. Listen at home the first go ’round, because it can get pretty embarrassing in public, trust. This is probably the best complete work I’ve heard in a long time (besides Broken Social Scene’s new album, but that’s not even what this blog is about). This stays on repeat.

Hailing from Bristol, UK, the hotbed of wonky future-beats from producers like Joker and Gemmy (and many more), Guido has surpassed- in my mind- pretty much everybody else from the “Purple Brizzle” sound (whoever came up with that name was for sure smoking purple at the time) with this. Out on Punch Drunk, the venerable Peverelist’s imprint (check the catalogue HERE), Anidea is synth-soaked beat madness. Orchestral Lab and Mad Sax have been out for a while so I’ve been impatiently awaiting the album drop.  Allah sez cop it NOW!

Little happy pills-

Mad Sax///The greatest use of a saxophone since Gerry Rafferty’s ‘Baker Street’ (look it up, dullard)

Beautiful Complication///Cross-over hit of the millennium?

Way U Make Me Feel ft. Yolanda///If you got any closer to Michael Jackson, your pants would be off (too soon?)

On to the Next One…

The Beginning

This is a blog about beats and bass music from all corners of the world. If it’s good and will blow your speakers up if played loud enough, I’ll do my best to put it on here
